After three tries I finally passed my certification for the NEC SV9500 phone system. This is the largest phone platform that NEC supplies, which means it is also the most complicated. I have been working with phone systems for almost twenty years and I have never taken a more difficult test. Most systems come with two manuals, hardware and software, this one had eleven. I still require eight more certs on the system to get me fully certified on all the peripherals.

Mid engine Boxster Beetle for your time.

Certification exams suck. I took 4 of them for my Electronics Technician certifications.

It allows me to install and maintain very large phone systems (think 2000+ phones) for business such as hospitals, school districts, casinos, and companies with a national footprint. There are less than 100 people in the entire nation that hold the certification. Hopefully the pay raise will follow soon, I need more Civics.

I’ve passed ASQ’s CQI exam, and IPC’s J-STD-001 CIT, 620 CIT, and 610 CIS exams. So I put it this way:

Including my employer, I’ve convinced at least three people that I know what I’m doing.

And that’s a good thing, because some days I feel like I got it all under control. Others, I wonder why they let me in the building.

I just have an associates for electronics. I have contemplated going to get my bachelor’s in engineering, but I don’t know if it’s worth it anymore at my age (almost 40). It pleases me to see other electronic techs, we seem to be a dying breed. People entering the workforce that have any interest in electronics seem to go into IT these days.

I currently hold eight certifications, but they are all manufacturer based. Having said that, they are still worth lots of $$$$ on my resume.

Ahh, I took their CET cert back when I was in school. At this point I think it’s so far expired I don’t even mention it.

Congrats!

I was confused, which car has a front engine, front wheel drive layout with the exhaust in the front too? Then I noticed it’s a boxster with backwards facing tires

Its interesting studying Electrical Engineering with a technician background. I’m the only one here who actually knows how to troubleshoot a circuit. You are right that a lot of high school hobbyists seem to move into computer science when they get ho college.

Congrats! I’ve never supported a NEC phone system, done avaya and a few others.

I’m a systems guy and am trying to convince my employer to pay to upgrade/renew my MCSE for 2016, certifications stink!

I have only been working with NEC for about 3 years now. I was mainly Mitel/Nortel/Avaya before.
